Mercian Films is an independent production company founded by Midlands filmmakers Lou Murrall and Andrew Gough — two long-time collaborators with a shared obsession for truth-telling through cinema.
Born and raised in the West Midlands, Lou and Andrew bring a distinctly grounded voice to British film. After years of working across narrative, documentary, and commercial projects, they launched Mercian Films to focus on bold, socially resonant stories that cut deep and speak loud.
At our core, we believe storytelling has a purpose: to challenge, confront, and shine a light where others won’t. Our films don’t shy away from the uncomfortable — they lean into it. Whether we’re exploring fractured communities, forgotten history, or personal redemption, our goal is simple: to move people.
Mercian Films takes its name from the ancient kingdom of Mercia — a nod to our heritage, and a declaration of intent. We’re here to make films with meaning, and we’re proud to do it from the heart of Britain.

Lou Murrall is a Birmingham-based cinematographer and producer with a passion for bold, emotionally grounded storytelling.
Known for his ability to blend striking visuals with raw authenticity, Lou’s work spans narrative film, music videos, and branded content. His approach is rooted in storytelling through light, composition, and movement — creating images that feel honest, immersive, and cinematic.
With years behind the lens, Lou brings both technical precision and creative instinct to every project. As co-founder of Mercian Films, he is committed to making films that provoke thought, stir emotion, and leave a lasting impact.
Andrew Gough
Producer / Co-Founder
Andrew Gough is a Midlands entrepreneur and producer with a track record of building standout brands. As the founder of Vivid Ink Tattoo Studios, he’s grown it into one of the UK’s leading tattoo companies.
His path into filmmaking began through viral social media content, where his instinct for story and marketing found massive reach. Now, as a producer at Mercian Films, Andrew brings that same drive and precision to the world of cinema — backing bold, true stories with real impact.
